Motorola and Verizon launch the first 4G Smartphone, the Motorola DROID BIONIC

So 2011 has started and so has the completion between the biggest mobile giants. This time it’s the race to build the best Smartphone on the 4G platform. Reports are already indicating to the iPhone 5 in the factory and also HTC’s “Desire” for an LTE version of its groundbreaking device. So, why would Motorola sit back in this? They have come up and released their plans of the LTE invasion by announcing the release of the Motorola Droid Bionic 4G Smartphone. They have signed a deal with 4G pioneers Verizon for manufacturing the device which would run on the Verizon 4G networks. Retail of the handsets can be expected to start as early as next quarter.

Droid Bionic can be the start of the 4G revolution in the mobile world. 4G offers speeds 10 times faster than the 3G networks, and with correct hardware and a good operating system Droid bionic can make sure that it uses every KBps of speed available to it. Droid Bionic will come with a 1GHz Dual Core Processor and a 512 MB RAM, enough power we hope to support what looks like a very heavy phone. The OS is based on the Android 2.2 with an inbuilt graphics accelerator for an enhanced visual treat.

Speaking of visual treat, there is a big 4.3 inch screen which is multi touch and comes with proximity sensors. Sure the big screen makes the phone looks bit bulky but it still has the features to support the sales. The capacitive touch makes it easy to use and the screen dimensions help lager fonts to be seen very easily. Droid bionic has been developed with inbuilt HTML 5 and Flash Player that can download and show any web file or mobile phone application available on the net. There is also an introduction the Quick office Application that manages your work files and organizes your emails very easily. It can also be synchronized directly with your PC for instant updates on all the platforms at the same time
.
Another addition to the series is an 8 Megapixel camera at the back with autofocus, LED flash and video recording feature. Further there is a VGA camera on the front for video calling options. This would cover all the Media utilities expected of a Smartphone and with a inbuilt space of 1.5 GB and a additional Micro SD slot given There is a lot of space available for storage of all your utilities.

With all the special features in place Droid Bionic also comes with some usual specs like a 3.5 mm jack and a USB port. There is also Wi-Fi support for wireless connectivity on the go and a HDMI port for connecting HD videos to external Equipments.

Weather the 4G revolution is successful or not only time will tell but Motorola has made a fine start and all the early indications suggest other big players to follow soon with their own take on this latest development. Hence we shall hold our verdict until everybody has played a hand.

HTC brings us the smartest Smartphone in the world, “The HTC Desire HD”.

Many people consider the HTC Desire to be the best Smartphone in the world. Most reviews give it a 5 star rating and if they had any more stars they would give those too, Desire is supposed to be everything the Smartphone should be; all in all it is very smart. But HTC has now come up with an even better and even bigger phone that they claim to be even better than the best phone in the world, The HTC Desire HD. At the first look it seems to be quite big , and with its massive frame and features it does look a bit difficult to carry, but once we start to use it, the phone just captivates the user and it becomes impossible to leave it. So over looking the size of the gadget lets get into the inner details of this monster.

Lets start with the 4.3 inch LCD touch screen with lends a massive look to the phone, it is a big increase from the 3.7 inches of HTC Desire. There are basically no buttons on the side except the sound control and lock/unlock button which are embedded into the frame of the body thus giving the phone a very smooth finish. The front look is clean with a few touch sensitive buttons and android logo at the back.

The most innovative and attractive feature of the HTC Desire HD, by far, is the HTC sensor UI technology. Desire also had that feature but it has been further developed for the Desire HD and the effects are easily seen. The phone has Auto rotate speaker capability, ringer volume control and Screen brightness control options and all of them can be operated very easily by the user.

Media options of the phone are equally impressive with a 3.5 mm input port at the bottom with a USB 2.0 connecting port. Putting these features at the bottom of the phone has really started a design change in the other Smartphone as well. It also comes with a 8Megapixel auto focus camera with double LED flash which can also record HD videos at 720p.Besides all that Desire HD also supports various third party applications like Flash player 10,Google products etc. The best apps are all listed in the android apps store which can be easily accessible on the phone.

Desire HD comes with the Android 2.2(Froyo) OS which is an improved version of the Android 2.2 version used in Desire. It also has a 1GHZ snapdragon processor and a 760 MB RAM. There is an internal memory space of about 1.6 GB and there is also a memory card reader slot available for Micro SD cards with up to 32 GB.

Update options are given for all the applications and downloading these updates is very easy because of the new web browser available in the Android Froyo 2.2 and update widgets already installed in the firmware. Desire HD supports full 3G facilities and thus with the new Wi-Fi version 802.1 you can access download speeds up to  14 MBps over the 3G network.
All these heavy options take a heavy toll on the battery life of the phone and we believe that a fully charged battery would only last a day. But with so many features you can expect that to happen.

HTC Desire HD is a worthy successor to the HTC desire and if you like your Smart phones big and healthy with lots of features and unlimited options then Desire HD are the perfect phone for you.

Dell Venue Pro to be launched in January 2011

Venue Pro is the latest Smartphone to be launched at the stat of this new year, it is also Dell’s first launch in a while after is earlier product Axim didn’t do that well in the PDA market a few years ago. Dell’s latest invention runs on the Windows 7 mobile technology. Anticipation is high in the market for its release, it’s also has an unusual QWERTY keypad that slides downwards.

Venue Pro can be seen as a multi-purpose phone that keeps people connected. It is aimed at the business market especially for people who like to carry their work on the go.

Venue Pro is quite big actually, although its specification indicate that its not bigger than Htc 7 but if u slide down the QWERTY keypad you will understand what we are talking about. Hence we can easily assume that it not phone people can carry in a pocket. The Slide works brilliantly on the QWERTY and the keys are well placed for a comfortable use. But the size is not bad at all actually; the large touch screen display gives value to the Windows 7 interface that is very well spread out for easy access for its unlimited features.

This phone will also offer a wide range of facilities that we usually expect from a windows mobile like Xbox live entertainment ,outlook integration from your office, free Zune pass and of course the MS Office pack.

Besides the special specification Venue pro also has some regular features like the 3.5MM jack output for headphone, USB 2.0 connectivity for easy access and also the Wi-Fi and GPS features. Although Dell has maintained that the phone is for regular people who like to stay connected and have entertainment on the go, we believe that it will attract the business segment more easily give the fact it is priced at close to 500 £ !

DELL Venue Pro Specifications

·         Touch Screen AMOLED display, large screen size close to 4 inches

·         Scratch-proof display for rough handling, easy locks and unlocks options

The big Mobile OS wars

1. Nokia and Intel

The start of the year will bring us an unlikely team, the news is that Nokia and Intel has agreed to bring together their expertise to produce a new Mobile OS platform named MeeGo. The deal took place keeping in mind the ever rising sales figures of the Android and windows mobile phones.

The first model based on this new platform is expected to be out in early February 2011, the success of the phone can also result in the end for Symbian based mobile phones which still have a long way to cover.

2. Microsoft

Microsoft R&D team is currently working on a new project named Menlo. It is believed to be a new look windows Mobile system that will roll all the features of Windows mobile and Zune into one singular Mobile operating system. The main task for the windows team is to replace the now common windows CE system with the new Windows NT system that is being designed to support these new features.

Microsoft' already has a new OS being launched in the market at the moment called the “Windows Mobile 7” so an attempt this early to already replace a product on the road to being launched does not make business sense but it seems that windows is trying to bring together the usefulness of a mobile phone with the functionality of a tablet PC.
The current features of the new Phones based on the Menlo’s Windows NT platform is not clear, early indications and pictures of the prototype even shows a barometer attached to the head of the phone (see pic ).

The tablet phone market is on the rise and new age mobile computing is going to be huge in the next decade so the steps taken by Windows think tank appear to be in the right direction, weather they achieve what they have set out for only time can tell…

3. Blackberry

RIM has developed a new OS for their premium range of Business Smart phone called the “BlackBerry 6”. It is the latest offering from the RIM research team to bring together the blackberry device and the touch screen mania. Blackberry 6 OS is expected to be launched in early part of 2011.

RIM is expecting that a touch screen friendly platform will help get customers base that shy’s away from the business phone image of Blackberry. Early indication suggests that the interface is easy to use and can appeal to all kinds of users.

 Here's a look of what's to expect...

1. Universal spotlight search

2. Interactive media menus

3. Social Networking options

4. RSS subscriber Feeds

5. Sliding interface

6. New messenger

7. Web posting

8. Improved web Surfing.

Although there is no fixed UK release date, but as more and more information starts to circulate in the market Rim is expected to launch the new Blackberry 6 pretty soon.

The Final word

With all the big players getting down to business in the early part of this new year we can expect some very exciting times in the field of Mobile OS technologies current survey shows that by 2014, Android will be second only to Symbian in Mobile OS worldwide, with the two platforms accounting for nearly 60% of the mobile OS.

Recent market survey has shown that the U.S and U.K mobile phone market has moved on from the age old Symbian system into the new world of Android and iPhone systems. However rests of the countries are still predominantly using the open source Symbian systems that dominate the market at various price ranges, hence the market is open for business.

Nokia N9 vs. E7, will MeeGo beat the Symbian platform?

Nokia N9, is like a smaller Mac book Air, is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress sometime next in early march 2011.

The Nokia N9 comes with a wide range of exciting new features including a QWERTY keypad for easy access to messages and E-mails. Besides that it is also expected to support full 3G features, not to mention certain elements of the 4G functionality as well.

Facing stiff completion from the Nokia’s very own E7, the N9 has a brand new MeeGo operating system. This particular feature has improved the brand value Nokia and gave it an edge over the Nokia E7 which still runs on the Symbian 3 OS. Another thing that new MeeGo has brought to N9 is new access options to watch videos and play music while streaming live from the internet. It seems as if now that Nokia has newest platform has learned a few tricks to beat the ever rising competition from the strong iOS Android and Windows mobile 7 OS.

So when we look at latest OS from the Nokia R&D factory with the hardware Brilliance of an E7 along with 12 MP camera and Wi-Fi features we get a very good Smartphone indeed. We don’t expect it to take over the market with a storm with the iPhone around but it really is something to look forward to in this New Year.
